One year ago, on April 13, 2009, I took a leap and published my first post on this little blog, and Comfortably Domestic was born. Boy, was I ever nervous! I had no idea if anyone other than Hubby or my parents would read my random musings on contented domesticity and life on the 45th parallel.
Would the whole endeavor be a total flop? Besides, who wants to read the musings a housewife/mother of four boys/compulsive baker that obsesses about food? But wait! What if they did? What if it wasn’t a flop? What if people that I didn’t know really did start reading my blog? I have to admit that for a minute, the idea kind of freaked me out.
But I did it anyway because I wanted a creative outlet to write. I wanted to share our favorite comfort foods, and hopefully have a few people try them and love them too. I wanted to communicate what was going on in our lives with far away family and friends. And if a few others happened to stumble across my little blog, and I made a few new friends, then that would be the icing on the cake.
So I wrote and shared the randomness going on in my head. And you happened by, and you read. You read! For that, I am sincerely grateful.
Thank you.
I am so thrilled to have re-connected with so many friends and family members. I have had the pleasure of meeting so many new and wonderful folks through Comfortably Domestic–my little blog that I was just sure no one would ever read.
So in honor of those of you that read about all of my randomness, my foibles, my weird family, and my never-ending comfort food cravings: I have a gift! As a token of my appreciation, I’m giving away a box of my Cherry Republic Favorites. Being that I live in the Cherry Capital of the World, it seems only appropriate.
Cherry Republic is a purveyor of all things cherry. Bob Sutherland, the President, started Cherry Republic by selling t-shirts out of his car at a time when a certain big-bucks-travel-and-safari-clothing-shop-from-another-fruit-republic-that-shall-not-be-named was selling a similar tee. Bob wanted to support the local economy, so after a few years of selling t-shirts, he expanded by selling dried cherries and cherry boomchunka cookies. The idea caught on, and now Cherry Republic sells over 174 different cherry products. It’s a neat story.
My version of the Cherry Republic Favorites gift box will include my 3 all-time favorite Cherry Republic products:
a big ol’ bag of Cherry Nut Mix,
a bag of Milk-Chocolate Covered Dried Cherries,
and a jar of Organic Cherry Chipotle Salsa.
Just my little way of saying thanks for reading my blog, while supporting a local business at the same time.
To enter: Leave a comment telling me that you want to experience cherry bliss direct from the 45th parallel. Or you can just say something like “I like cherries,” and I’ll consider that your entry. Entries will be accepted on this or any post until Tuesday, April 19, 2010 at 12:00 Midnight. The winner will be drawn at random and announced as soon as I catch my breath from running kids to and from various activities while trying not to drown in a sea of smelly athletic gear.
Of course, it goes without saying that neither Bob Sutherland, nor anyone else at Cherry Republic has any idea who I am or what makes me Comfortably Domestic. I just like their stuff, and I want to share it with you. All product renderings are copied directly from the Cherry Republic website. No free stuff for me, although if Bob wanted to send some organic salsa my way, I would happily gobble it up while singing his praises. The end.
