Calling all caffeine addicts: in the Western tradition of serving edibles unnecessarily large portions, Starbucks has announced the introduction of the Trenta. The trenta is a almost 31 ounce beverage that shoots past their current largest sized beverage, the 20 oz. Venti, by nearly 11 ounces. Healthcare professionals and snarky bloggers are in an uproar because the new size is literally larger than a human stomach. Not that that has stopped western culture before.
On a marketing note, how awesome are the Starbucks folks with their naming conventions? Venti is Italian for “20.” Trenta is Italian for “30.” Now that’s truth-in-advertising!
I affectionately call the Venti the no-messin’-around-size. The precedent has been set. So now what to call the Trenta?
The Trenta-saur?
The Trentapotamus?
The Trentinator?
The Trenta-Big-Gulp?
The Trenta-big-a**-coffee?
My future in the Starbucks Marketing Department would be bright.
In case you were wondering, the Trenta will cost 50 cents more than a Venti. Sadly, the size is limited to cold beverages, so if you need the extra caffeine infusion, iced coffee will be your new drink of choice.
The drink is being launced with limited runs in: Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii, Nevada and Arizona.
I see no mention of the 45th parallel of Michigan. Clearly this must be an oversight. Oh wait, our only “real” Starbucks is in a grocery store. Also an oversight on the part of the Starbucks corporation.
But fear not! If your state isn’t listed above, the Trenta will be available nationwide on May 3.
SO, could you do it? Are you tough enough to stomach a 31 oz. iced coffee? Too much caffeine, or not enough?
By the way…the powers that be at Starbucks have no idea in the world who I am. I have not been compensated in any way for this product post, or they would open a Starbucks in my small town, where I would be their Chief Marketing Officer in Charge of Naming Conventions. However I would gladly accept a Trenta Chai Latte if they choose to give me one. Information was compiled from the same source of all relevent news in my life: yahoonews and aolnews.com.
