For all the miles I log in carpool each day, I can’t complain. I have the best commute ever.
I see the sun rise over rolling hills each morning.
I pass acres upon acres of cherry trees readying for their winter slumber.
The farmers have been working for hours by the time I drive past. They will be up before the sun until well after the snow falls.
It’s exciting to see the red balls o’ apple appear like early Christmas bulbs in the orchards. The apple harvest has begun.
I see many a gorgeous red barn. I have a thing for barns like I have a thing for cows.
I pass fields of hay: baled and awaiting to sustain livestock this winter.
Yellow diamonds dot the country roads, warning of out of the ordinary traffic. This one makes me laugh because it’s not the usual tractor or horse. With miles of open land, you had to know there would be a remote golf course in the midst of it all.
I pass my favorite farm house on my way home. I imagine how great it would be to live there. Soaking in the view from the porch with a mug of chai tea.
When the stress and rigors of daily life start closing in, I take a moment and really “see” the land around me. Then I can breathe.
